I just recently received the Amax card, after 30 day they asked me to pay full amount of 1,750 it’s the annual fee that I didn’t used , I pay a little bit but they suspended my account. Called the customer service but still no option to help. Dissatisfied….

After three days they replied to say it was declined because of security concerns. Not true as I had also tried to withdraw money from banks. Kept getting 'technical error'. So gave up using it which was quite inconvenient - no cash during our whole trip. Fortunately was able to use another credit card for almost everything (upsetting the odd cab driver who wanted cash). To make it worse, difficult getting my money returned at the full purchase rate once back in Australia. This process took a month with considerable follow up on my part. My recommendation is, use a credit card when away - preferably one with no overseas transaction fees and just change some Aussie cash at the money exchange so you have cash for tips etc.

The first you know about it, is when your card is declined. When contacting the bank you have to go through menu after menu only to hear on repeat everything you can do through your mobile app - THAT YOU CAN"T ACCESS. Then when you finally get to speak to someone, they won't discuss the issue unless you provide enough detail (through email) that if intercepted is enough to clone your ID. Went into a local branch, to be told they can't help - that isn't their job! Shareholders should know that the Adelaide branch is just for diplaying the wine collection - not for actually helping anyone. Then while Macquarie has gone cashless the customer MUST have a physical drivers licence to verify their ID even though the drivers licence states "Use of this permit/licence for the purposes, other than policing road traffic, is not permitted or authorised and is soley at the risk of the user".
